About us
Talbot Karate
Club is a NON-PROFIT Organisation run by: Sensei - Michael Mainwaring (
Tubo ), all of our Dojo fee's are put back into the club, we are not out
to make money, we are here because we love karate and to teach
anyone who wants to learn about Karate
Its better to know karate and never
need to use it, than needing to protect yourself and not knowing how.
It was once written that the greatest achievement anyone can attain in
karate is mastering the art of fighting, without fighting! (Bruce Lee
once said it!!)

I started training at the tender age of 16 yrs having
had no active interest in sports or games at school but was fascinated
by the art of karate when I first encountered it. Local boy Roberto
(Swede) Masterangeli had achieved Dan grade and was opening a club above
the Green Meadow public house. He persuaded me to start training with
him and from there I accompanied Roberto when he transferred
to the Afan Lido where we trained for approx 20 years (off & on due to
work commitments). I left the Afan Lido to join the Welsh Karate
Association for 8 years but we have now found a permanent home with
the British Karate Association / Wales.
Apart from running his
own club Michael is also the National Youth Coach for the Welsh Karate
Governing Body as well as being a member of the W.K.G.B. selection panel. |

I started training at the age of 25 in Fairfield, Port Talbot.
Karate has always interested me, learning the art of
karate taught me self discipline, enhanced my fitness and helped
me learn about my own body: How to react to situations and read
situations. Karate has unified my Mind, Body
and Soul, through hard training, patients and skill, I have
gained my 1st Dan Grade in 2005. I train twice a
week in the Royal Naval Hall, Purcell Avenue - Sandfields - in
Port Talbot and take my own class twice a week in Cimla Welfare
Hall - Neath. |
